Have you ever seen a turtle with the “Need for Speed”? Well now’s your chance! Join the Science Spectrum for the 2nd Annual Turtle Race Day Championship on June 7th from 2:00pm-4:00pm in the Science Spectrum Atrium! In celebration of National Turtle Races Day, the museum's collection of turtle and tortoise speedsters will be on display and competing for the coveted “Shell-abration Cup”! From 2:00pm-3:00pm visitors will have the opportunity to meet the competitors and learn more about these amazing athletes. Guests will then make their winning predictions for each race and fill out a race bracket. At 3:00pm the checkered flag will wave, and the first of 5 heats will begin! Stick around to see the championship race and who will be crowned top Testudine! Visitors who guess all brackets correctly will be entered into a drawing to win tickets to see the latest film in the OMNI Theater, Dolphins. Turtle Race Day at the Science Spectrum is a FREE event and will be located in the Science Spectrum Atrium. Other free activities will include turtle themed crafts and hands-on activity stations. Guests can discover the difference between turtles and tortoises, plus have an opportunity to see and touch real turtle and tortoise shells. While you’re here, visitors can check out additional resident turtles on display in the museum's collection of live animals and aquariums on the bottom floor of the museum, or take in a showing of Dolphins in the OMNI Theater. Follow marine biologists, Dr. Kathleen Dudzinski, Dr. Bernd Würsig and Dr. Alejandro Acevedo-Gutierrez, as they research the communication of wild dolphins with innovative scientific methods. From rarely seen fish-herding behavior to a close-up look at complex communication activities, Dolphins offers a fascinating new perspective on the lives of dolphins and their remarkable intelligence. Dolphins is narrated by Pierce Brosnan and features the music of Sting. Standard museum and OMNI ticket rates still apply.
